OCD MIMAROPA encourages all to participate in DRRM training

SAN JOSE, Occidental Mindoro (PIA) – The Department of National Defense (DND) – Office of Civil Defense (OCD) MIMAROPA encouraged all sectors to take part in their disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) training.

Marc Rembrandt P. Victore, OIC of the DRRM Division of OCD, said during the latest edition of the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas that their office provides different capacity-building activities to all members of the DRRM council and representatives of all sectors, as disaster preparedness involves not just the government, but the community as well.

“ ‘Yung ating mga training…hindi lang po ito exclusive for the local government units but also the members. ‘Yun po lagi nating ine-emphasize…DRRM is not only the role of the government, this is a whole-of-society approach,” Victore explained.

As an example, he shared that a few media practitioners in Oriental Mindoro have availed training spearheaded by OCD, including the Incident Command System (ICS) training, which aims to capacitate participants to effectively manage potential and actual disaster consequences and other emergencies.

Individuals, volunteers, or representatives of private groups who wish to request training may write a request letter to their local DRRM who will coordinate with the OCD to provide hazard-specific training.

“Chine-check naman po natin ‘yung mga schedule at kung ano po ‘yung pinakaangkop na training na pwede nating maibigay sa mga kasamahan natin, even yung mga sectoral groups na kasama natin,” Victore said.

(We check our schedule and the most fitting training that we can provide to our partners, even to the sectoral groups.)

The OCD also encourages and seeks out the youth to take part in training and information education campaigns. (DSG/PIA MIMAROPA – Occidental Mindoro)
