Odiongan is first MIMAROPA town to adopt DICT’s eLGU system

ODIONGAN, Romblon (PIA) — The municipality of Odiongan in Romblon is the first town in the MIMAROPA region and the fourth nationwide to adopt the Electronic Local Government Unit (eLGU) innovative system for delivering government services following the program launching of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).

DICT MIMAROPA Regional Director Emmy Lou Versoza-Delfin, in a video message, highlighted the benefits of the eLGU system, citing that it offers citizens real-time, 24/7 access to vital services such as business permits and licensing, requests for birth, death, and marriage certificates, and the issuance of community tax certificates.

“The system is fully integrated with the verified eGovPH app, providing seamless single sign-on access for hassle-free transactions,” Delfin said.

She also noted that transactions through the eLGU system can be paid via mobile wallets, enhancing convenience for users.

The eLGU system aligns with Republic Act 11032, also known as the Ease of Doing Business and Efficient Government Service Delivery Act of 2018, emphasizing streamlined processes and efficient service delivery.

Odiongan mayor Trina Firmalo-Fabic expressed gratitude to the DICT for introducing the eLGU system, describing it as a significant advancement for the municipality.

She announced plans to establish an information desk in the municipal hall lobby, equipped with free-to-use tablets and computers, to assist clients with eLGU transactions.

“In the coming days, we will set up an information desk in the lobby where those who need help using the eLGU system can access it,” Fabic said.

She also expressed pride in Odiongan being the fourth locality in the country to adopt the eLGU system, stressing that the platform would be particularly beneficial for residents in remote areas, those living outside the province, and even overseas Odionganons who can now transact with the LGU without traveling to the municipal hall.

Initially, the eLGU system will facilitate transactions with the Business Permits and Licensing Office, Local Civil Registrar, and Treasurer’s Office. However, Fabic assured that additional services would be integrated into the system in the future.

The launch of the eLGU system in Odiongan represents a significant step toward digital transformation in local governance, streamlining processes, and improving access to essential services for citizens. (PJF/PIA MIMAROPA-Romblon)
