LUCENA CITY (PIA) – Licensed professionals practicing overseas are exempted from completing the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) units required for renewing their professional licenses issued by the Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC).
Reynaldo Cristobal, PRC IV-A Regional Director, cited Senate Bill 2349 which exempts Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) from the CPD Act of 2016.
“OFWs just have to present proof that they are OFW, and they will not be required by the PRC to earn any number of [CPD] units usually required to renew their PRC license ID,”
Despite no longer practicing professionals in the Philippines, OFWs with licenses in the Philippines should not worry about their licenses expiring.
Cristobal clarified, “The license itself does not expire; it is their professional ID that does. We issue the license only once, but what professionals renew with us is their PRC ID. This ID indicates whether you are in good standing with your organization, and it is our way of verifying that status.”
Regardless of whether they have retired or are no longer practicing professionals, Cristobal assured license holders that their certification as professionals will not be revoked.
“Being a PRC license-holder is permanent and will not expire.” (PB/PIA 4A)
