BAGUIO CITY (PIA) — The Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity (OPAPRU) and the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) through the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) will hold a media orientation on localized peace engagement and transformation program in Baguio City on Monday, September 23, 2024.
The event aims to strengthen the government’s peace information campaign and build a shared understanding of peace in the communities.
The OPAPRU will present an overview of the Transformation Program, which is designed to complement the Local Peace Engagement of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF ELCAC).
The Transformation Program aims to ensure the successful integration of former rebels into mainstream society and strengthen the resiliency of communities cleared from communist terrorist groups (CTGs).
The orientation will also be an avenue for the communicators, both from public and private, to understand the multi-dimensional nature of the local communist armed conflict and transformation program.
The Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police will present the CTG situation in Cordillera while the Department of the Interior and Local Government will present the accomplishments of the Cordillera Regional Task Force on Ending Local Communist Armed Conflict.
A highlight of the of event is a testimonial of a rebel returnee who was successfully reintegrated into the society.
In 2023, the Presidential Communications Office, PIA, and OPAPRU inked partnership to amplify the government’s peace efforts in the country. Under the memorandum of understanding, the OPAPRU will develop and implement the comprehensive strategic communications plan to carry out the LPE and Transformation Program with the help of the PCO and the PIA and conduct workshops on the principles and tools of Conflict Sensitive and Peace Promoting Communities, among others.
