OPAV brings 3rd Bagong Pilipinas Caravan to Naga City, Cebu

CEBU CITY, Cebu (PIA) — The Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas (OPAV) is set to hold the 3rd leg of the Bagong Pilipinas Caravan of Services on Aug. 24 in Naga City, Cebu.

In a press briefing, OPAV spokesperson Atty. Kaye Almieda Yap said the caravan is a flagship initiative of Pres. Ferdinand R. “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. aimed at bridging the gap between the government and grassroots communities.

“With the caravan of services, we bring essential government services directly to the doorsteps of Filipino families, hoping these will be accessible especially in remote and underserved areas,” Yap explained.

Around 25 government agencies will participate in the caravan from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., which will be held at the St. Francis of Assisi Boardwalk.

“We’re truly happy that these agencies are very cooperative, given that we’re holding this caravan on a Saturday,” said Yap.

The caravan will cater to the constituents of the first district of the province of Cebu, consisting of Talisay City, Minglanilla, Carcar City, Naga City, San Fernando, and Sibonga.

According to Yap, OPAV is expecting more than 9,000 beneficiaries considering the positive reception of participants during the 1st leg in Dalaguete in April and the 2nd leg in Alegria in June 2024.

“With every caravan we hold, we are always happy because the turnout is always greater than the previous one. We are hoping we will be able to serve more,” she added.

OPAV media dead Jerome Calatrava said this will be their first time holding the activity outdoors, given the expected influx of participants and the beneficiaries of DSWD’s Ayuda para sa Kapos ang Kita Program (AKAP) and DOLE’s Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program.

OPAV also plans to bring the caravan to Regions 6 and 8.

“Before the year ends, we would like to hold the 4th leg, possibly in Region 6,” said Calatrava.(MYP/PIA7 Cebu)
