Operatives seize P30 million worth of expired meat

MANILA, (PIA) — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) and the Department of Agriculture (DA) on Tuesday seized five containers of expired meat worth about P30 million.

In a report, around 11:00am Tuesday, the BOC, DA and Caloocan City Police conducted the operation at a place in Tuna Street C3-Caloocan City.

Caloocan City Mayor Dale Gonzalo “Along” Malapitan personally inspected the area and instructed the City Assessors Office to find out the owner of the lot, tenant as well as the consignee of the frozen meat from China.

According to Malapitan, there is a need for restrictions against smuggled goods that are dangerous to public health.

So far, only one container of expired meats has been opened by the authorities.

Customs and DA personnel, meanwhile, are already conducting an investigation to determine the value of the expired meats. (PIA-NCR)
