CAMIGUIN (PIA) — Voters in Camiguin reported a smooth and peaceful experience during the 2025 National and Local Elections. Senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and other priority groups received assistance, while local authorities maintained order at polling precincts.
Senior citizens noted efficient voting procedures. One elderly voter said, “Wala ko’y problema aning precinct kay wala ra nag-one hour nakabotar nako basta dali ra gyud. Systematic gyud amo dinhi. No problem sa mga senior.”
(I had no problem in this precinct. I was able to vote in under an hour. It was really fast and systematic here. No issues for seniors.)
He said senior voters were given enough time to vote.
PWD voters also cited prompt support. One voter shared, “Dali ra ang pamaagi kay ako mang gi-inform nga PWD so na-assist mi, dali ra gyud kaayo.”
(The process was easy because I informed them I’m a PWD. We were assisted right away—it was really fast.)
Local government agencies, including the Philippine National Police, disaster management offices, rural health units, and other law enforcement bodies, were deployed to ensure safety and monitor precincts. Medical teams were also present to provide support if needed.
Jessica Mae Del Puerto, a lactating mother from Mambajao, said despite the initial lack of priority for mothers like her, she managed to take advantage of the expedited process.
“By 9:00 a.m., nahurot na ang mga senior citizen og pag-voting and then pregnant woman, gipanguha na dayon mi and gitagaan mi og privilege nga maadto sa fast lane,” she said.
She finished voting by 10:45 a.m. and hoped that lactating mothers and those carrying children would have designated lanes.
Vilma Gabales, another voter, observed improved procedures. “Mas dali karon kaysa niagi kay hapsay karon… Dali ra pud nahuman ang amo nga precinct cluster.”
(It was easier now compared to before—it was orderly, and our precinct cluster finished quickly.)
The Department of Education (DepEd) Division of Camiguin activated its Election Task Force (ETF) from May 11 to 13 to assist DepEd personnel. The ETF aimed to resolve concerns and provide support aligned with DepEd’s advocacy for a “MakaBAGONG Halalan para sa Makabagong Pilipino.” (RTP/PIA-10//Camiguin)
