CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) – In solidarity with the provincial government on the celebration of Women’s Month, the Gender and Development Focal Point System Technical Working Group (GADFPS TWG) recently spearheaded the planting of mangrove seedlings along the seashores of Brgy. Mahal na Pangalan in this city.
With the theme, “WE for Gender Equality and Inclusive Society,” head of GAD TWG Atty. Phoebi De Mesa expressed the significant roles of women in society and how they contribute to dealing with social issues and challenges of time.
Aside from planting mangroves, the group also did the cleaning of moss and disentangling coiled nets from the branches of mangroves.
Also part of the activity is the monitoring of the shorelines of Calapan that are not yet affected by oil spills brought about by the recent sinking of MT Princess Empress in part of Naujan.
According to De Mesa, the GAD TWG in the province is always in action in solidarity with other agencies in relation to environmental protection and other social issues pertaining to the welfare of women.
The activity was participated in by the division heads of the provincial government, program implementers, and barangay officials. (LTC/PIA-OrMin)
