CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) led the financial assistance payout for rice retailers throughout the province at Calapan City Market on September 20.
DTI Oriental Mindoro Provincial Director, Arnel E. Hutalla, CESO V said, “This step is in compliance with the Executive Order No. 39, in which the DTI has the mandate to conduct daily price monitoring on those who sell regular and well-milled rice in all rice retailers in town markets if they are qualified and passed our evaluation.”
With the continued monitoring of the said agency, the price of regular well-milled rice should be at P41.00/kg and well-milled rice at P45.00/kg.
About 16 rice retailers in this city and one from Victoria were included in the payout, each of which will receive P15,000 from the DSWD.
Meanwhile, Felipe Sarzadon, one of the rice retailers, said the assistance provided will help them sustain their business by reducing losses and enabling them to buy new stocks of rice.
“Malaking tulong sa amin [rice retailers] ang programa na ito ng gobyerno. Mula noong nakaraang buwan, nagkaroon kami ng malaking halaga ng capitalization na natamo. Ang pera na ito ay gagamitin [namin] sa pagbili pa ng ibebenta dito sa palengke,” said Sarzadon.
Meanwhile, 17 rice retailers in Pinamalayan, 16 in Roxas, three in Socorro, and one in Bongabong are also set to receive the assistance after passing the DTI’s evaluation.
Apart from DTI and DSWD, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), and the Department of Agriculture (DA) are also partners in the said program. Citizens may contact these agencies: DTI (889-0712); DA (02) 8927-4350; and Police Regional Office (PRO) Mimaropa (0917) 622 8038. (GATS/PIA MIMAROPA)
