OSY, unemployed youth gain tech-voc skills in Navotas

MANILA, (PIA) — Fifty-nine out-of-school and unemployed young residents of Navotas have successfully completed a free skills training program at the Navotas Vocational Training and Assessment (NAVOTAAS) Institute.

The initiative aims to equip youth with the necessary skills to enhance their employability and entrepreneurial potential.

Among the graduates, 20 participants earned a National Certificate (NC) II in Shielded Metal Arc Welding, while another 20 achieved NC II certification as Baristas.

Additionally, 19 individuals completed the Bread and Pastry Production NC II course, with 18 receiving their national certification.

In recognition of their hard work, graduates were provided with toolkits and allowances to help them kick-start their careers in their chosen fields.

Mayor John Rey Tiangco praised the graduates for their dedication and perseverance. He underscored the importance of continuous learning and skills development, stating,

Hindi ibig sabihin na hindi tayo nakapagtapos ng pormal na pag-aaral o wala tayong diploma ay wala na tayong pag-asa. May oportunidad pa ring umasenso. Importante na mayroon tayong tamang skills at pag-uugali para sa trabaho o negosyo na nais nating pasukin.” (It doesn’t mean that just because we didn’t finish formal education or don’t have a diploma, there’s no hope. There are still opportunities for advancement. It’s important to have the right skills and attitude for the jobs or businesses we want to pursue.)

Tiangco also highlighted the significance of building good habits for success, adding, “Mahalaga ang patuloy na pagpapalago sa ating kaalaman, pagpapahusay ng ating skills, at pagbuo ng magandang habits at mindset para tayo ay magtagumpay.” (It is essential to continuously grow our knowledge, improve our skills, and develop good habits and mindset to succeed.)

The mayor encouraged trainees to take advantage of other city programs, such as the NegoSeminars offered by the NavotaAs Hanapbuhay Center, to further enhance their skills.

Navotas City currently boasts three training centers that provide free technical and vocational courses to residents, while non-residents can also enroll for a fee. This initiative reflects the city’s commitment to empowering its youth and fostering a skilled workforce for the future. (JCO/PIA-NCR)
