CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) — More than ₱3.9 million worth of food assistance has been distributed to families who were affected by heavy rains and severe flooding caused by the shear line in MIMAROPA region.
Of the total amount, some ₱615,810.80 came from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) MIMAROPA, ₱2.4 million was provided by the local government units, and ₱908,900 came from various organizations.
The aid has reached municipalities in Baco and Victoria in Oriental Mindoro, as well as Aborlan, Brooke’s Point, Narra, and Puerto Princesa City in Palawan.
According to DSWD, there were 3,976 families, totaling 15,338 individuals, who have reportedly been affected and displaced in Oriental Mindoro and Palawan.
As of February 12, some 3,599 families are still sheltered in the evacuation centers, while 377 families have already returned to their homes.
Earlier, Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao of the DSWD’s Disaster Response Management Group (DRMG) said that Secretary Rex Gatchalian has directed immediate coordination with local government units to speed up relief efforts in MIMAROPA and Eastern Visayas.
