Over 1,000 IDP students to benefit from BARMM’s tuition subsidy

MARAWI CITY (PIA) — Over 1,000 students are set to benefit from the BARMM’s Office of the Chief Minister – Marawi Rehabilitation Program’s (OCM-MRP’s) Tuition Fee Subsidy (TFS), amounting to P7.9 million.

The subsidy distribution intended for internally displaced persons (IDP) at different learning institutions began on September 20, 2024, wherein seven (7) out of its 11 partner private schools received financial support.

This initiative is part of MRP’s ongoing efforts to ensure that educational institutions previously situated in Marawi’s most affected areas can continue providing access to quality education for students affected by the city’s rehabilitation.

The first recipients of TFS include Aba-Alkhail Computer School, Cali Paramedical College Foundation, Inc., Dansalan Polytechnic College, Inc., Jamiatu Dansalan Al-Islamia Foundation, Inc., Jamiatul Philippine Al-Islamia, Inc., Marawi Capitol College Foundation, Inc., and Senator Ninoy Aquino College Foundation Marawi City, Inc. The four remaining private schools will receive their TFS upon completing the required documents.

In his message, Deputy Chief Minister Aleem Ali Solaiman encouraged the students to finish their education and take advantage of the Bangsamoro Government’s educational assistance programs like the TFS.

“Don’t lose hope because today, it is easier to access scholarships and assistance. Focus on doing well in your studies. I pray to Allah (swt) that each of you achieve your dreams, both in school and madrasah,”  he said.

Meanwhile, Johari Limbona, a BS Criminology student from Jamiatul Philippine Al-Islamia, Inc., said that he is grateful for all the assistance that IDPs like him continuously receive from the Bangsamoro government.

“Alhamdulillah, the TFS will give us, the IDP students, an opportunity to finish our education. It will alleviate our parents’ burden in paying our school fees,” Limbona said.

Member of the Parliament Said M. Shiek, the MRP’s Program Manager, was also present during the event and led the distribution of checks to the school heads.

Earlier this year, the MRP finished distributing bulks of school supplies and equipment to 22 private schools, 17 Islamic educational institutions (madaris and toril), and seven (7) vocational training centers previously located in the city’s affected areas. (BIO/PIA-10 Lanao del Sur)
