QUEZON CITY, (PIA) – Some 10,433,707 million residents in the National Capital Region (NCR) were already registered in the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) or the national ID as of July 2024, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reported.

The said figure translates into approximately 74.4 percent of the target population in the region according to PSA-NCR Regional Director Paciano Dizon.

“Ang pangunahing layunin ng PSA-NCR ay mai-register po natin sa national ID ang lahat ng taga-NCR. Hindi lamang po sa National ID, kung hindi ma-enumerate po natin lahat ng households sa NCR sa ating census of population,” said Paciano in a Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas (KBP) media forum.

(The main goal of the PSA-NCR is to register everyone in the region to the National ID system. Not only in the national ID, we also aim to enumerate every household in NCR to our census of population.)

To ensure the accessibility of registration, the PSA-NCR established permanent registration centers in its five (5) provincial statistical offices covering all the 16 cities and 1 municipality in the region.

About 49 PhilSys Registration Centers are also placed inside malls as well as 156 mobile registration centers which are being dispatched around Metro Manila on a scheduled basis. These are located in government offices, schools, condominiums, malls, events places, and other areas frequented by the public.

PhilSys registration was likewise made easier for vulnerable groups, particularly the elderly population and persons with disabilities (PWDs). The PSA-NCR primarily brings mobile registration kits to households and conducts registration on wheels to reach remote and underserved areas in the region.

“This effort aims to register those who may find it difficult to visit fixed registration centers.  This mobile approach ensures that even those in the farthest corners of the NCR can benefit from PhilSys ensuring no one is left behind,” Paciano added.

To date, over 6 million Filipinos in NCR have already received the copies of their ePhilIDs or digital national IDs (printed in paper). Paciano reiterated the validity of the ePhilID as a proof of identification. This can be easily accessed through the https://national-id.gov.ph/

PSA-NCR, on the other hand, is working closely with the Philippine Postal Corporation (PhilPost) to overcome the challenges when it comes to the delivery of the physical national ID cards.

So far, PhilPost was able to deliver 4,752,957 national IDs in NCR. This data encapsulated the delivery of 227,516 ID cards that were facilitated through the Return-to-Sender (RTS) mechanism of PSA-NCR which enabled individuals to collect their IDs at designated locations. (JMP/PIA-NCR)
