Over 1M learners in EV enrolled for SY 2023-2024

TACLOBAN CITY (PIA) — As classes officially began on Tuesday, August 29, the Department of Education (DepEd) in Eastern Visayas disclosed that the total number of registered learners for School Year 2023-2024 has reached 1,023,383.

The pupils and students were both from public and private schools that offer basic education curriculum in the region.

Data from the Learners Information System (LIS) Quick Count showed that elementary learners recorded the highest number of enrolees at 550,553, followed by Junior High School students with 313, 632 enrollees and Senior High School students with 159,198 enrollees.

The said figure is 79.89% higher compared to the School Year 2022-2023 enrollment.

Jasmin F. Calzita, DepEd-8 regional information officer, said the figure is not yet final as there are schools that haven’t submitted yet their reports.

Mark Lito Gallano, DepEd-8 regional planning officer, said the numbers might also change if there are updates from the official encoding of the LIS.

“As early as August 29, during the opening of classes, these numbers will also change because the official enrolment will come from the official encoding of the schools in the learners information system,” Gallano said.

In addition, all school heads and teachers are being reminded to update and encode their learners’ profile in the LIS starting August 29 until October 31, 2023.

Gallano also urged parents and guardians to submit the PSA live birth certificates of the learners on or before October 31, 2023, if they haven’t submitted yet. (MMP/CBA/PIA-8)
