Over 20,000 indigent children in Lanao Sur to receive food assistance from BARMM

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur — The Bangsamoro Government, through the Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD), has started delivering truckloads of food supplies to 403 child development centers (CDCs) and 493 supervised neighborhood plays (SNPs) across the province.

This initiative, part of the 14th cycle of the Supplementary Feeding Program (SFP), will benefit 22,558 indigent children.

The distribution started on February 10, 2025, in the Municipality of Madalum, where 16 CDCs and 14 SNPs received essential food supplies, including 261 sacks of well-milled rice, 680 kilograms of dried anchovies (dilis), 340 trays of eggs, 680 bottles of cooking oil, 1,360 kilograms of mung beans, and 1,369 kilograms of all-purpose flour. These provisions will support 680 young learners enrolled in early childhood learning centers in the town.

As a standard procedure for each cycle of the SFP implementation, MSSD social workers conducted immediate and thorough inspections of the food supplies to ensure their quality, quantity, and timely distribution to the beneficiaries.

“The delivery of the 14th cycle SFP implementation has started this week and will continue in the coming weeks until all the 896 CDCs and SNPs in the province receive the food supplies,” said Zamrah Sedik, MSSD’s Regional SFP Focal and Nutritionist-Dietitian.

MSSD is closely monitoring the program’s implementation in all the provinces to ensure that its partner learning centers provide hot meals for children throughout the 40-day feeding program.

SFP is a nationally funded initiative that aims to address the issues of malnutrition and hunger among underprivileged children aged 2 to 5 years who enrolled in CDCs and SNPs. MSSD oversees the implementation of this program in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. (BIO/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
