QUEZON CITY, (PIA) — More than 203,000 senior citizens in the city will receive a monthly allowance of P2,000 from the local government, as announced by Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan.
The distribution of these funds began on September 8 and will continue until September 27.
Elinor Jacinto, Chief of the Office of Senior Citizens’ Affairs (OSCA), confirmed that the total number of senior citizens registered in Manila reached 203,000 as of August 31.
The financial assistance will cover the months of May through August 2024.
Mayor Lacuna-Pangan noted that the Public Employment Service Office (PESO), led by Chief Fernan Bermejo, is responsible for the payout, cash handling, and liquidation of the allowances.
The distribution has been organized by district, with the final payouts scheduled for September 21 to 27 for Districts 5 and 6.
In response to feedback from senior citizens facing difficulties with their PayMaya cards, the local government is now processing these allowances through barangays.
The mayor urged seniors to exchange their expiring PayMaya cards for OSCA IDs, which do not have expiration dates and can be used to claim their monthly aid.
This initiative is part of the city’s broader social amelioration program aimed at supporting its senior residents. As the distribution continues, city officials remain focused on ensuring that all eligible seniors receive their benefits in a timely manner. (AVS/PIA-NCR)
