TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (PIA) —To strengthen partnerships and minimize environmental impact through sustainable waste management, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Cagayan Valley pooled thousands of partners in the recent regionwide simultaneous cleanup activity.
Regional Executive Director Gwendolyn Bambalan said the cleanup drive generated more than 20,000 kilograms of recyclable, non-recyclable, and hazardous waste materials.
“Let us all be conscious and mindful of the waste that we generate individually each day. In this simple way, we can make a big difference for the planet,” Bambalan said.
She also emphasized the important role the informal waste sector plays in creating a sustainable future.
In celebration of National Zero Waste Month, the event was participated in by environmental stakeholders from municipal and barangay local government units, and national government agencies, including law enforcement institutions, non-government organizations, civil society organizations, commercial establishments, academe, and private sectors.
The environment chief is hopeful that all government and even private firms and agencies will sustain the cleanup drive to maintain a clean and orderly environment in Cagayan Valley. (OTB/PA Region 2 with reports from DENR 2)
