TUBLAY, Benguet (PIA) — More than 50 residents benefit from the optical and medical mission conducted at Barangay Basil in Tublay, Benguet on April 11, 2025.
The event was under the “Beneco sa Barangay” project of the Benguet Electric Cooperative for its member-consumer-owners (MCOs) in collaboration with the Baguio Everlasting Lions Club, and other supporting groups.
“Nag-request [ang] barangay Basil para mag-conduct kami ng medical mission dito, kasi isang project ng Beneco ‘yung CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility), nagbibigay ng medical mission. Kaya na-tap namin itong barangay Basil na isang beneficiary ng medical mission,” Beneco Board of Director District 10 Wilfredo Diano said.
The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for the medical services, optical check-up, free eyeglasses, and medicines provided.
“Salamat iti daytoy nga inmayan yu, ket thank you daytoy inted yu nga ag-agas ken daytoy reading glass tapnu makabasa kami met iti kayat mi nga basaen. Ken kasta met daytoy Beneco, agpasalamat kami iti inmayan da nga nagpa-seminar. Sapay kuma ta adda kuma ti pag-imbagan ti amin daytoy nga barangay,” Aniceta Laoyan said.
(Thank you for coming here, and thank you also for giving us the medicine and the reading glasses so that we can read what we want to read. We are also grateful to Beneco for coming and conducting the seminar. We hope that all of this will bring something good to our entire barangay.)
The residents appealed for more free services to lessen their burden, especially in coping with the rising living expenses and limited access to essential resources.
“Alam naman natin na ang kalusugan ang mahalaga sa atin. ‘Yung sabi nga nila health is wealth. So binigyan natin ng importansya ang kalusugan ng mga tao natin dito. Kasi yung mga ka-barangayan natin ay medyo low income sila. Kulang ang pang gastos nila sa medical services kung pupunta sila sa clinic,” Basil Punong Barangay Lito Mateo shared.
The Barangay Basil community believes that expanding such initiatives could significantly improve their quality of life and promote better community well-being.
Alongside the medical mission was a seminar on the electric cooperative’s services. Other Beneco CSR programs include environmental stewardship, renewable energy development, educational support, community electrification, infrastructure development, health and medical assistance, and financial assistance to members.
This initiative reflects Beneco’s support for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG No. 3, which focuses on good health and well-being, SDG No. 4 Affordable and clean energy, SDG No. 11 Sustainable cities and communities, and SDG No. 17 Partnerships for the goals.
