VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur (PIA) – The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has urged overseas jobseekers in Ilocos Sur to visit their official website for licensed placement agencies to avoid recruitment scams online.
Lawyer Mario Zinampan, Assistant Secretary for Public Policy and International Cooperation, advised them to never accommodate recruitments on social media during the DMW’s job fair caravan for overseas employment here on November 10.
“Just a reminder na maraming trabaho na naghihintay sa inyo abroad pero sa procedure… sana kumunsulta muna kayo sa amin sa DMW – dapat mag-apply kayo sa mga licensed recruitment agencies, huwag sa social media. How do we know? Bisitahin niyo ang aming website at hanapin niyo doon pero kung wala doon, hindi iyon lisensyado, huwag kayong mag-apply doon,” said Zinampan.
Conducted by the DMW, in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the provincial government of Ilocos Sur, the said caravan was the first in the region and fifth in the country, according to Luchyl Malot, Officer-in-Charge and Chief of Migrant Workers Registry Division.
“Inuuna namin iyong mga nasa grassroots level at iyong mga nasalanta ng bagyo o kalamidad so since ang Ilocos Sur ay nasalanta ng lindol noong nakaraang taon kaya pinili naming (magsagawa ng job fair) dito,” she said.
Malot then invited jobseekers who missed the caravan for the next jobs fair in the region, which will be held in Lingayen, Pangasinan on November 25.
“Sa mga hindi nakapunta ngayon, tingnan niyo lamang po ang DMW website through this link – https://www.dmw.gov.ph/licensed-recruitment-agencies at dito niyo makikita mga ahensya ang maaari nilang aplayan or mayroon kaming susunod na jobs fair caravan sa Lingayen, Pangasinan on November 25. Pwede silang pumunta kung malapit sila doon,” she added.

A total of 428 job applicants lined up for the nine participating agencies searching for applicants in Australia, the United Kingdom, Macau, the United States, Japan, and Saudi Arabia, among others.
“Once given the opportunity a ma-employ kayo, ited-yo amin a kabaelanyo. Ipagtangsit-yo a datayo a taga-Ilocos Sur ket nasisiglat tapno ado ti mangbigbig kadatayo ken nalaklakanton ti sumrek (ti trabaho) (Once given the opportunity to be employed, do your best. Be proud of how efficient people from Ilocos Sur can be in everything we do so that more people will recognize us, which will leave a mark and be easier for other to land a job.),” Governor Jeremias Singson told the jobseekers in his message.
