CEBU CITY, Cebu (PIA) — The Social Security System (SSS) in Region 7 is urging businesses in the region that shut down after being subjected to the Run After Contribution Evaders (RACE) operations to inform SSS about their closure.
According to Eric A. Coronado, SSS acting head for Visayas Central 1 Division, said business establishments that closed should still coordinate with SSS.
“We urge employers who have shut down their businesses to coordinate with their respective SSS account officers to properly document the closure so they will no longer receive billing letters for unpaid contribution payments,” said Coronado.
He said 13 employers in the region who were visited by SSS personnel during the RACE operations have reportedly closed.
“These establishments failed to inform SSS about their closure,” added Coronado.
The said employers must pay any unremitted contributions and the corresponding penalties incurred before they close their business.
Coronado explained that employers who cease operations should submit the SSS Form R8 or the Employer Data Change Request and the SSS R1A or Employment Report to determine the last payment of SSS contributions.
Employers should attach a copy of the surrendered business permit and two valid IDs for the single proprietor, and dissolution if the business is a corporation.
Coronado said that SSS would continue to run after erring employers in the region.
RACE is a campaign implemented by SSS to ensure the compliance of business establishments with social security regulations.
The campaign targets employers who fail to register their employees or remit contributions, with penalties ranging from fines to imprisonment. (HFG/PIA7 with reports from SSS Cebu)
