ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) — The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) rescued a 28-year-old abused Overseas Filipino Worker in Saudi Arabia who is a resident of Barangay Initan in Tapaz town.
Based on the Tapaz Municipal Information Office Facebook Page post, alias “Nancy” was severely maltreated by her employer and has been subjected to physical and emotional abuse, including threatening her with a pistol gun three times.
“I was deprived of sufficient food and was given spoiled bread,” Nancy shared as she was also hospitalized due to stress.
Despite her situation, she added there was no assistance from her recruitment agency to help her and ensure her safety.
Moreover, her family was deeply concerned with her health and safety which made them decide to urgently seek help from the local authorities.
She was rescued and safely returned to the country through the intervention of Tapaz town Mayor Roberto Palomar and with the help of OWWA Administrator Arnell Ignacio.
During their visit to the mayor’s office, Nancy’s family expressed their deepest gratitude for the swift action of the Tapaz municipal government and OWWA.
Nancy’s mother, Zenaida, also expressed her gratitude to Palomar and Ignacio for bringing her child home safely.
“Our family is wholeheartedly happy and grateful for your unwavering support and care,” Zenaida said in Hiligaynon.
As Nancy wishes to stay in Tapaz, Palomar promises to give her a job in the municipal government.
“Our OFWs are the modern heroes of our society. Our local government is here to help aid them to the best of our ability,” Palomar stated.
He also encouraged the families of the OFWs to approach his office for any assistance they may need.
OWWA Region 6 Family Welfare Officer Christian Labuyo noted that aside from the MOI 11 or the Special Assistance for arriving distressed and displaced OFWs worth P10,000.00, Narcisa will also be granted with OWWA’s Balik Pinas, Balik Hanapbuhay (BPBH) Program worth P20,000.00 to assist her in starting a livelihood project of her choice.
