Ozamiz City holds aftercare, livelihood support for PWUDs

OZAMIZ CITY, Misamis Occidental (PIA) — A total of 649 Persons Who Used Drugs (PWUDs) participated in the two-day Information Campaign and Illegal Drug Usage Evaluation (RDT) Aftercare Program organized by the Ozamiz City government, in collaboration with various government agencies.

The event, held across eight barangays in the morning with 379 participants and 10 barangays in the afternoon with 270 participants, offered drug dependency evaluations, awareness sessions, and livelihood support.

The morning session included participants from Tabid, Diguan, Labinay, Dimaluna, Pulot, Litapan, Manaka, and Sinuza, while the afternoon session was attended by residents of Bagakay, Balintawak, Bongbong, Cavinte, Cogon, Gala, Guimad, Guingona, Kinuman Sur, and Trigos.

This initiative is part of Mayor Henry “Indy” Oaminal Jr.’s commitment to providing opportunities for former drug users to reintegrate into society. The city ensures that every PWUD can access livelihood programs, skills training, employment, and financial support.

“We are not just fighting illegal drugs—we are fighting for the lives of our people. This administration is about giving hope, second chances, and empowering our fellow Ozamiznons to become better versions of themselves,” he said

The city government has institutionalized various livelihood programs for rehabilitated PWUDs and these align with the Asenso Pinoy vision, focusing on inclusive development, peace, and progress.

This multi-agency approach integrates medical assessments, psychological support, and sustainable livelihood assistance, highlighting the collective effort to address the drug issue beyond law enforcement.

Partner agencies for this event included the City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD), Department of Health (DOH), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Provincial Government of Misamis Occidental, Philippine National Police (PNP), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), and other law enforcement bodies.
