OZAMIZ CITY, Misamis Occidental (PIA) — Ozamiz City has taken a significant step in addressing the long-standing issue of stray dogs with the recent turnover of its newly renovated city pound in Barangay Kinuman Norte on January 11.

Mayor Indy Oaminal Jr. and the Asenso Ozamiz Administration are leading this initiative, which highlights the city’s dedication to fostering a safer and more organized environment for both residents and animals.

“Stray dogs pose risks not only to motorists but also to pedestrians, especially during accidents caused by unexpected encounters with these animals. This facility is a proactive solution that addresses both public safety concerns and the welfare of stray dogs,” Oaminal said.

City officials, including Vice Mayor Simplicia Neri and city councilors, were present to highlight the importance of this project in promoting responsible pet ownership and maintaining cleanliness in the community. Rev. Fr. Marion Magcanam blessed the facility to symbolize a fresh start for the initiative.

Beyond its immediate purpose, the project is a call to action for residents to participate in responsible pet management. By reducing the number of stray dogs on the streets, the city aims to minimize accidents, control the spread of diseases like rabies, and improve the overall image of Ozamiz as a safe and progressive city.

Oaminal expects this initiative to have a significant impact on the community. Ozamiz envisions a future where the city pound operates humanely, public spaces remain clean and safe, and residents embrace their role in supporting animal welfare.

He added that the renovated city pound is more than just an infrastructure project—it’s a testament to the city government’s dedication to fostering a harmonious coexistence between humans and animals, paving the way for a healthier and more orderly community. (LGU Ozamiz/PIA-10/Misamis Occidental)
