P91M-worth FMR in Tadian benefits more than 2k households

TADIAN, Mountain Province (PIA) – At least 2,660 households or  18,357 individuals will benefit from the newly improved Besao-Nacawang and Tadian-Mabalite Farm to Market Road (FMR) in this municipality.

Department of Agriculture-Cordillera Regional Executive Director Cameron P. Odsey and Governor Bonifacio C. Lacwasan Jr. with other key officials led the inauguration and turnover of the P91,857,453.99 -worth newly improved FMR at sitio Toyakpa in barangay Batayan on February 8.

The 4.154-kilometer project was completed through the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) of the DA and implemented by the provincial government.

This will ease and hasten the transport of agricultural products and commodities in the 14 barangays of Besao, Zone 2 barangays of Tadian and some barangays of Ilocos Sur. Moreover, it will provide more convenient and faster travel of motorists and commuters.

Odsey credited the success of the project to the collaborative efforts of the various officials who pushed for its realization.  He related that this project started thru the collaboration of the DA with the provincial officials, municipal officials and the Office of the Congressman. This was realized in the early 2000’s through the CHARMP 1. The road improvement project started sometime in 2017 and was completed in December last year.

He hopes that the local government will help in the maintenance of the project.

Governor Lacwasan thanked the DA for supporting the project which immensely helps in the development of the beneficiary areas.

Tadian Mayor Constito S. Masweng and the different barangay captains of the beneficiary barangays expressed their gratitude for the project. He mentioned that the Nacawang Road is one of the oldest roads in Tadian, and serves an alternative route to or from Besao if there are road closures in the Sabangan and Bontoc areas.
