PAF mobilizes heli-bucket ops in Tondo fire

QUEZON CITY, (PIA) — The Philippine Air Force (PAF) mobilized its air assets to support firefighting efforts in response to a massive fire that broke out Sunday morning in Isla Puting Bato, Tondo, Manila.

In a prompt response to the emergency, multiple aircrafts were deployed, including the Black Hawk, B205, and SOKOL helicopters that conducted numerous heli-bucket operations.

According to the Philippine Air Force, its 205th Tactical Helicopter Wing’s Black Hawk helicopter completed 15 sorites, while the 505th Search and Rescue Group’s B205 and SOKOL helicopters conducted 26 and 59 sorties, respectively.

The fire, which started around 8:00 a.m. and escalated to Task Force Charlie by 12:58 p.m. has devastated over 1,000 structures and displaced around 2,000 families.
