Palawan veterinary office assists in livestock recovery

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan (PIA) — Livestock in Palawan towns that were heavily affected by the widespread flooding are now receiving vitamins and deworming medicines from the Provincial Veterinary Office (ProVet).

Dr. Darius Mangcucang of ProVet said the team has started assisting 300 livestock in Aborlan town, to be followed by Narra and other towns in southern Palawan.

Aside from vitamins and dewormers, there are also antibiotics given to animals with the assistance of the Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) and Barangay Veterinary

The farmers in barangays Plaridel, Apoc-apoc and Tigman have initially received the assistance.

“Susobra pa yan sa Aborlan kasi ipagpapatuloy pa yan ng mga barangay veterinary aide natin. Depende pa sa recommendation ng MAO kung alin ang mga barangay ang need na ma-priority,” he said in a message.

Alongside the provision of deworming supplies is the artificial insemination, particularly for large farm animals.

In a progress report by the Department of Agriculture (DA) MIMAROPA, farmers engaged in livestock suffered an initial loss of 2,000 animals, amounting to P4.5 million.

The department said that the ongoing submissions from different municipalities are likely to increase the figure of losses and damages. (RG/PIA MIMAROPA-Palawan)
