Pangandaman greenlights creation of 175 faculty positions to strengthen MSU System

MANILA — Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Secretary Amenah “Mina” F. Pangandaman has approved the creation of a total of 175 faculty plantilla positions for the Mindanao State University (MSU) System, further bolstering the government’s commitment to strengthening education and human capital development in Mindanao.

Of the 175 new faculty positions, 75 are for Instructor I positions which will augment the need for teachers in the 12 secondary schools within the MSU System. The Notice of Organization, Staffing, and Compensation Action (NOSCA) authorizing these positions has been issued, with an estimated Personnel Services (PS) requirements of P39.217 million.

Secretary Pangandaman emphasized the importance of this initiative, citing the provisions of Republic Act No. 11504, which underscores the government’s mandate to continue supporting and strengthening the MSU System.

“Nakasaad po sa batas natin, ‘The National Government shall continue to support, enhance, and strengthen the Mindanao State University System.’ Gusto po nating patatagin at lalo pang paigtingin ang edukasyon at human capital development, lalung-lalo na sa Mindanao. We are not only simply filling the staffing gaps in MSU, but elevating the quality of education across the region so that our students have access to top-tier learning opportunities,” Sec. Mina stated.

The newly created Instructor I positions will provide opportunities for aspiring educators across the MSU campuses. These positions are essential for addressing the growing demand for qualified faculty members within the region.

100 faculty plantilla positions for MSU-IIT

Furthermore, the Budget Secretary has also authorized the creation of 100 faculty plantilla positions, specifically Assistant Professor IV, for MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology (IIT), with an estimated PS of P81.110 million.

The creation of the said positions will address the immediate need for qualified faculty at this level in view of the significant increase in enrollment and academic programs of the University.

Both NOSCA, signed by Sec. Pangandaman on 17 September 2024, reaffirm the government’s commitment to providing quality education across all regions, especially underserved areas. These initiatives are expected to enhance faculty development and capacity-building efforts within the MSU System, ensuring that it remains a premier institution for education in Mindanao. (DBM)
