DAGUPAN CITY (PIA) — The Pangasinan Provincial Library is urging students, particularly those working on their thesis, to fully utilize the library’s physical and online support services to access essential resources and help them write high-quality papers that will meet their graduation requirements.
Provincial Librarian II Mary Jane Salangad said that the library offers consultations where students can receive help with reviewing related literature and studies, using proper citation formats, and navigating available resources.
This service is particularly crucial as part of the students’ curriculum, which requires that the resources they use for thesis writing come from books, journals, and electronic resources, sourced from both local and international authors.
“Part of our daily services is that we assist thesis clients with title development, Chapters 1-3, and bibliographic citations, offering step-by-step guidance and providing available resources throughout the process,” said Salangad during the recent Pantongtongan Tayo virtual presser of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) – Pangasinan.
Those who wish to request a lecture may visit the Provincial Library from Monday to Friday, excluding holidays, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Capitol Complex in Lingayen town.
Online sessions are also available, and those interested, even from outside the province, can send a request via the official Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/pangasinan.provinciallibrary, or by emailing [email protected].
Upon request, whether onsite or online, the provincial librarians no longer wait to gather a group before conducting a session, as students do not always arrive at the same time.
Hence, even if only one student is present, the librarians will provide immediate guidance to help the student get started with his or her study.
“We are open to addressing the information needs of students, other researchers, and the general public for their reading,” Salangad assured, while acknowledging the library’s challenge with printed resources on trending or new topics for research studies.
For outdated materials, as the curriculum requires sources from the last five years, she advised that while these can still be used in research, students will be guided on how to appropriately use them in their paper presentations.
If the needed information is not available in the library’s print collection, Salangad assured that the assisting librarian will help search for and provide a copy of the relevant topic requested by the researcher via Google Drive on the scheduled day.
Kolvin Carlos Canilang, who is set to begin writing his thesis this second semester at PHINMA-University of Pangasinan, expressed his excitement to take advantage of the Provincial Library’s services.
“After watching the Pantongtongan Tayo virtual presser by PIA Pangasinan, I am glad to have learned about the services offered by the Provincial Library. I am from Lingayen, and since it is close by, I am excited to take advantage of the opportunity for one-on-one tutorials on the technical aspects of thesis writing, which will help improve the quality of my thesis. It will definitely be one of my go-to places during thesis writing, alongside the university library,” he said.
Meanwhile, students can also use the Provincial Library as a study space, where they can hold group discussions, work on case studies, make their own projects, and review for examinations.
They can freely use the print resources for educational purposes, while computers are available for clients who cannot locate materials in the print collection.
Take-home use is available with a specified borrowing period, except for those designated for in-library use, such as reference books.
Likewise, the National Library of the Philippines’ Techno Aklatan features old collections that have been scanned or digitized and made accessible to the public.
Researchers are encouraged to visit its official website at web.nlp.gov.ph, where they can access these resources for free to support their research. (AMB/JCDR/KLTD/PIA Pangasinan)
