Pangasinan town reinforces disaster preparedness amid typhoon threats

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan (PIA) – The local government of Calasiao has strengthened its commitment to disaster resilience after declaring a state of calamity following the devastation caused by Typhoon Enteng and the enhanced southwest monsoon (habagat).

Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer (LDRRMO) 1 Kristine Joy Soriano said the declaration, outlined in Resolution No. 88, series of 2024, was made in response to widespread flooding that affected 16 out of the town’s 24 barangays.

Although floodwaters have receded, the town’s Emergency Operations Team remains vigilant as Typhoon Gener approaches.

Classes have been suspended in Pangasinan due to the impending storm.

“We are closely monitoring Typhoon Gener’s progress. Our personnel and equipment are on standby to provide immediate assistance to affected residents,” Soriano said.

Calasiao’s local government unit (LGU) has established a 24/7 emergency response system, with trained personnel and volunteers ready to assist.

The town has also prepared essential resources, including one ambulance, one rescue vehicle, and an aluminum boat.

Partner agencies and private individuals have pledged support by providing additional vehicles if needed.

If local resources prove insufficient, the province of Pangasinan, the Philippine Coast Guard, and the Philippine Air Force are ready to provide assistance.

LDRRMO 1 Soriano urged residents to prepare go bags with essential supplies, stay updated on weather conditions, and familiarize themselves with designated evacuation sites.

The MDRRMO remains vigilant in monitoring weather threats and ensuring the safety of Calasiao’s residents throughout the typhoon season.

Residents can contact 0932-666-8199 in case of emergency.

Meanwhile, Justin Soriano, a Sangguniang Kabataan kagawad from Barangay Buenlag, praised the LGU’s effective response to Typhoon Enteng.

He highlighted the importance of suspending classes to ensure students’ safety and the timely provision of public services to affected areas. (AMB/JCDR/KCC/PIA Pangasinan)
