QUEZON CITY, (PIA) — The Parañaque City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) has been recognized for its exceptional dedication to environmental sustainability, receiving an award from the Philippine League of Local Environment and Natural Resources Officers (PLLENRO).
The award, presented during the PLLENRO’s 15th National Convention held in Boracay Island, Malay Aklan, acknowledges CENRO’s remarkable efforts in implementing and managing the city’s Solid Waste Management Program.
Parañaque City Mayor Eric Olivarez expressed his pride in CENRO’s achievement, highlighting the office’s commitment to environmental protection. “This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our CENRO team,” Olivarez said. “They have consistently demonstrated their commitment to promoting sustainable practices and ensuring a cleaner and healthier environment for our city.”
The award was received by Mark Allen Besa, CENRO officer-in-charge, and Engr. Teresa Quiogue, assistant department head of CENRO. Both officials expressed gratitude for the recognition and emphasized the importance of continued collaboration with stakeholders in achieving environmental sustainability.
CENRO’s success in solid waste management is attributed to its comprehensive approach, which includes a combination of strategies such as waste segregation at source, proper waste disposal, and recycling initiatives. The office has implemented various programs and projects aimed at promoting awareness and participation among residents, businesses, and other stakeholders.
One of CENRO’s key initiatives is the establishment of Materials Recovery Facilities (MRFs) in different barangays. These MRFs serve as collection points for recyclable materials, promoting resource recovery and reducing the amount of waste sent to landfills.
CENRO has also been actively promoting composting, encouraging residents to reduce organic waste by converting it into valuable compost. The office provides training and support to communities interested in setting up their own composting systems.
Furthermore, CENRO has implemented a strict enforcement of solid waste management regulations, including penalties for violations. This has helped to discourage illegal dumping and promote responsible waste disposal practices.
The award from PLLENRO is a significant recognition of CENRO’s dedication to environmental sustainability. It serves as a testament to the effectiveness of the city’s solid waste management program and inspires continued efforts to protect and preserve the environment. (GLG/PIA-NCR)
