ILOILO CITY (PIA) – – The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Guimaras Provincial Office is urging parents or guardians to register their children, including those aged 1 to 4 years old, to Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) to ensure they will have their valid proof of identity.
Provincial Statistics Officer Nelida B. Losare said parents can take advantage of the PhilSys registration activities being initiated by the agency and their local government units such as during the ‘Grand Serbisyo sa Barangay 2024’ of the municipality of Jordan on November 8.
The registration of children below 5 years old is aligned with the campaign of the government to cover all age groups under the PhilSys program which aims to create a more streamlined and efficient identification system for all citizens, enhancing access to services and promoting social and financial inclusion.
Losare said the presence of parents and guardians and the PSA/LCRO issued Certificate of Live Birth of the child are required during the registration.
“This initiative is crucial in ensuring that even the youngest members of the population have their PhilSys IDs, which will eventually serve as their official proof of identity for various government services,” said Losare.
Data from PSA – Guimaras indicated that 2,209 Guimarasnons have already registered to the National ID system during the 3rd quarter of this year. Of this number, 44.36 percent or 980 were children 1 to 4 years old.
She added that PSA-Guimaras continues to collaborate with the local government units and partners to implement other strategies to make sure that registration is convenient and accessible to Guimarasnons. Some of these activities are the Barangay and house-to-house initiatives, PhilSys on wheels, school-based registration, plaza-type registration, and sitio or purok registration.
“We are also expecting staff from the Central Office to observe and assist in the registration, especially in the island villages,” said Losare.
Residents are advised to coordinate with their local barangay officials or visit the PSA Guimaras office for more information on the PhilSys registration schedule and locations. (AAL/LAF/PIA6-Iloilo)
