ILOILO CITY (PIA) – The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) has brought the arts closer to Ilonggos through the staging of the Pasinaya Open House Festival at the Iloilo Museum of Contemporary Arts in Iloilo City.
The Pasinaya, which officially kicked off the celebration of the National Arts Month, showcased Iloilo City’s rich history and culture through the different workshops featured during the event.
Among the workshops participated by students and art enthusiasts in Iloilo included Collagraph Printmaking Demo, On-the-Spot Drawing from Life workshop, Panay Mythology workshop, Dramatic Interpretations, and Creative Writing training, Timplada: Creative Culinary Expressions, and dance workshop, among others.
Participant Ylan Christopher Hilaro, a second year Performing Arts student from West Visayas State University College of College of Physical Education, Sports, Culture, Arts and Recreation (PESCAR), in an interview, said that Pasinaya gave them a platform to learn more about the arts of dancing, improving their skills in performing arts.
“At the end of the day, I also expected to learn more not only in dance but really about the arts because it is also one of the reasons why we are here, to learn more on the history and culture of Iloilo and appreciating it through the different forms of arts,” Hilaro added.
Meanwhile, Maria Rosario Estrada, CCP officer-in-charge for Visual Arts and Museum Division, said that Pasinaya aims to bring everyone together for the arts, noting that all forms of arts teach people about themselves, their history, and the community.
“Art is able to teach us more about ourselves, more about us as people, as a community, as a nation. This is able to bring us closer to each other and can tell us more about what we have in common rather than what separates us from each other,” Estrada said.
This is the second time that Iloilo City served as one of the venues for the Pasinaya.
For this year, the country’s biggest multi-arts festival also expanded its reach to Batangas, Sorsogon, Himamaylan City, and Tagum City. (AAL/JNH/PIA Iloilo)
