BANGUED, Abra (PIA) — The nearest branches of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) from Abra are in Ilocos Norte, La Union and in Baguio.
Abrenians who need to apply or update their passports would cost them extra expenses and time.
On November 6-8, 2024, Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), on the request of Congresswoman Ching Bernos brought its “Passport On Wheels” program to Abra to enable Abrenians to apply for passports right in Bangued, saving them time and transportation expenses.
Starting Nov. 25, the new passports are available for claiming at the Congressional District Office at the BBM Building at Rizal Street in Bangued. A total of 934 passports have been claimed, as of Nov. 26.
Bernos said that one of her priorities is bringing affordable and essential government closer to Abrenians.
“One of our priorities has always been to bring essential government services closer to Abreños. Now, the Passport on Wheels-Abra, we are grateful to provide the necessary fees for the passport application. Through this, Abreños will receive their passports which can also be used as identification cards for legal and employment purposes,” she said.
Jelai De Leon who availed the services of the Passport on Wheels said that it lessened her hassle to go outside Abra to update information on her passport.
“Menos bannog kada gastus ta nagpa-update nak from single to married diay civil status na since 2028 to pay lang ag-expire, isu ditoy nak ‘Passport on Wheels’ immay,” she said.
[I needed to update information on my passport – my civil status from single to married. It will expire in 2028 yet, so I went to the Passport on Wheels- less hassle and expenses.]
