BORONGAN CITY (PIA) — Taxpayers in Eastern Samar have expressed support for the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) during the nationwide tax campaign kickoff, promoting voluntary tax compliance under the theme, “Buwis na Tapat, Tagumpay Nating Lahat.”
The event, held at the Provincial Capitol gym in Borongan City on March 4, was spearheaded by the BIR Eastern Samar Revenue District Office (RDO) 086, led by Revenue District Officer Vicente Tady. It featured a symbolic pledge of support signed by representatives from both the private and public sectors in the province.
The campaign encouraged taxpayers to pay accurate tax promptly and observe payment deadlines on April 15, 2025.
It also emphasized the crucial role of tax compliance in economic recovery and development.
Board Member Byron Suyot, representing Gov. Ben Evardone, urged taxpayers to fulfill their obligations, highlighting the government’s dependence on taxes for essential programs.
“Kaulangan maaghat it taxpayers nga bumayad ha tama nga buwis ha tama dama nga oras ha punuyo nga makabulig kita han economic recovery ngan development han nasud,” lawyer Suyot said.
(It is necessary to encourage taxpayers to pay the correct taxes at the correct time so that we can contribute to the economic recovery and development of our province.)
He also emphasized the link between tax compliance and improved government services and infrastructure development.
Meanwhile, the provincial government, along with the Department of Public Works and Highways and Techiron Resources Inc., received recognition as top taxpayers in the province.
The campaign included taxpayer education on various tax types, withholding procedures, and the consequences of non-compliance, as well as a report on RDO 086’s successful collection of P1.21 billion in 2024. (SEJ/PIA Eastern Samar)
