PBBM flood-control projects ready for La Niña

MANILA — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. assured the public on Monday of the government’s readiness to address La Niña.

The construction of long-term flood control projects is going to deal with La Niña’s challenges for the government, according to the Chief Executive.

The President made the remarks when asked during a media interview on the preparations of the government for the looming destructive weather phenomenon.

Concerns were raised over the depleted calamity funds of local government units (LGUs) after they responded to the long dry spell.

“Naka-ready naman kami, but of course, the long term, ang talagang solusyon dyan is ‘yung flood control,” he told reporters.

“Aayusin natin ‘yung flood control, gagawin nating irrigation, mag-iipon tayo ng tubig para pagka naabutan na naman tayo ng tagtuyot, kagaya ngayon ay mayroon tayong pagkukuhanan ng tubig,” he explained.

There’s no need to do anything special, the Chief Executive said, adding that the government is already doing everything it can to prepare for La Niña which is forecast to hit the country in the later part of the year.

Marcos was in Tacloban City to lead the distribution of 5,000 land titles to agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) in Eastern Visayas, fulfilling his promise of lands to landless farmers. (PND)
