QUEZON CITY, (PIA) — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has classified public school teachers as a “special category” and said increasing their Service Recognition Incentives (SRI) this December is one way of acknowledging them.

Teachers are [a] special category. So we have to handle that individually,” Marcos said, adding that enhancing these incentives is a way to express gratitude for the vital role teachers play in ensuring quality education for the youth.

On December 9, the President directed the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) and the Department of Education (DepEd) to raise the SRI for approximately 1,011,800 DepEd personnel from the current range of P18,000 to P20,000.

This initiative aims to acknowledge the dedication and hard work of teachers, particularly in light of their contributions to basic education during challenging times. The move has been welcomed by educators and advocates who emphasize the importance of supporting those in the teaching profession.(AVS/PIA-NCR)
