PBBM lauds MCIAA, stakeholders for commitment to excellence

President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. on Thursday attributed the successful completion of the new P2.55-billion runway at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) to stakeholders’ support and partners’ dedication.

Speaking during the inauguration of MCIA’s alternate runway, President Marcos commended those who worked tirelessly to complete the project despite the challenges posed by the pandemic.

“This milestone would not have been possible without the firm determination of the Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority, the unwavering support of all the stakeholders, and the dedication of all the partners working together in concert and coming to this great achievement,” the President said.

He acknowledged the resilience and creativity of Filipinos who moved forward despite uncertainties.

“Amidst the immense challenges of the pandemic, each of you exemplified the strength and ingenuity of the Filipino people,” he said.

“Because despite health risks and uncertainties, you pressed on with courage and commitment, striving for the completion of this very important runway. So, on behalf of the entire nation, daghang salamat,” he continued.

The President said the inauguration is timely as the MCIA is due for repairs on its primary runway in May.

For the first time in the country’s aviation history, an airport will carry out significant runway repairs without interrupting ongoing services, a testament to excellence, careful planning, and operational efficiency.

He said that the alternate runway will operate simultaneously with the primary runway three years from now, enabling MCIA to accommodate up to 18 million passengers annually.

“By 2028, we expect the alternate — the parallel runway to be used simultaneously together with the original runway, ensuring greater efficiency and capacity to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving and growing aviation industry,” he added. |PND
