QUEZON CITY (PIA) — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. threw his full support for the efforts of Police Regional Office 5 (PRO-5) of the storm-ravaged Bicol region, whose forces are on alert as the regional local government unit (LGU) grapples with the effects of destructive storm Kristine.
In a post on Facebook, PRO-5’s PBGen. Andre Dizon said that police forces’ coordination with response agencies to facilitate relief operations in areas in most need of assistance.
Dizon assured the Bicolanos that their police force’s top priority this time is to serve secure displaced communities in the region.
Dizon cited reports that several places in Camarines Sur and neighboring provinces are still flooded, saying that some residents are on rooftops.
He emphasized that the government is taking immediate steps to deliver assistance to affected residents, and through PRO-5’s “Ligtas Ka” program, the police personnel are focused on securing flooding survivors.
Earlier on Friday, Oct. 25, PRO-5 reported that the death toll due to flooding in Bicol has climbed to 26 from 20, but was still subject to validation.
Also, PRO-5, on national radio, said that three people were reported missing and nine were reported injured in the region as of 3 a.m. Friday.
A total of 314,309 people, or 106,303 families, were staying in evacuation centers, coming from 586 flooded barangays, of which 540 are in Camarines Sur.
The police also recorded 22 landslide incidents—13 in Albay, four each in Camarines Sur and Sorsogon, and one in Camarines Norte. (PIA DMD)
