MANILA, (PIA) — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Saturday will visit the Tondo district of Manila to provide assistance to families displaced by a recent fire, and offer financial support and relief goods to approximately 2,100 affected households.
The President is set to visit the Delpan Evacuation Center and Rosauro Almario Elementary School, to personally know the extent of the damage and community impact. He will be joined by Manila Mayor Maria Sheilah “Honey” Lacuna-Pangan.
Government assistance will include P10,000 per family through the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) Program.
Additional relief items distributed included family food packs, blankets, and sleeping mats.
Marcos is also set to personally led the ceremonial distribution of aid to 10 representative beneficiaries, symbolizing the government’s commitment to supporting the affected community.
Local and national officials, including Social Welfare Secretary Rex T. Gatchalian and Manila 1st District Representative Ernesto M. Dionisio Jr., were present to support the relief efforts.
It can be recalled that a fire swept through Tondo’s Isla Puting Bato neighborhood Sunday morning, destroying about 1,000 homes and displacing 2,100 families.
The blaze began around 8 a.m., according to Manila Fire Department intelligence chief Senior Inspector Alejandro Ramos.
The barangay was placed under a state of calamity by the Manila City Council.
“We will explore options for relocating the affected residents, as Isla Puting Bato is no longer a safe place for them,” Mayor Lacuna said. (JEG/PIA-NCR)
