MANILA, (PIA) — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. called on Filipinos Thursday to harness the power of social media to help promote local products and support micro, small and medium enterprises across the country.

Speaking in Iligan City, the President encouraged people to take selfies with famous local delicacies like toasted peanuts and palapa and share them online.

Here in Iligan, I know the popular local products are toasted peanuts and palapa. So if you have some with you, take pictures of them. Take a selfie with the product and then post it on social media,” Marcos said, when he led the distribution of aid to farmers, fisherfolk, and families in the city and nearby areas.

The president said such a simple act could provide a big boost in raising awareness and promoting regional specialties, especially given the prevalence of social media usage in the Philippines.

It’s just a small thing, but it would be a huge help in getting your products and your place recognized and celebrated, especially since social media is so popular among most of us nowadays,” he added.

Marcos also highlighted that the Department of Trade and Industry is supporting micro, small and medium enterprises through its negosyo (business) centers to help improve their operations.

The promotion of regional Filipino products supports a key economic priority for Marcos, who has vowed to reinvigorate micro, small and medium businesses following the challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the event, Marcos led the distribution of presidential assistance worth P10,000 each to El Niño-affected farmers and fisherfolk.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) also handed over P10,000 to each beneficiary.

The Office of House Speaker Martin Romualdez distributed 5 kilos of rice to each attendee.

President Marcos also handed over P10.54 million to the City of Government of Iligan, P13.92 million to the provincial government of Lanao del Norte, and P24.36 million to the Provincial Government of Misamis Occidental.

The President concluded his speech by expressing his administration’s resolve to assist Filipinos during the drought and the looming La Niña.

(JCO/PIA-NCR)
