PCA-10, Lanao del Norte launch coconut seed farm to boost industry

LINAMON, Lanao del Norte (PIA) — The Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA)-10, in partnership with the provincial government, launched a Coconut Seed Farm at the Metro Iligan Regional Agro-Industrial Center (MIRAIC) on March 11 to strengthen the local coconut industry.

The project is part of the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan-Coconut Hybridization Program (CFIDP-CHP). It aims to provide high-quality coconut seedlings, support biofuel production, and serve as a learning and research hub for farmers and agricultural experts in the region.

PCA-10 Acting Regional Manager Rolan Callo emphasized the importance of collaboration for the project’s success.

“Today’s ceremony marks a new beginning as we are now committed to partnering with the local government of Lanao del Norte in our goals of coconut productivity and sustainability. As we are very much positive about working together for future endeavors that will further enhance and advance the lives of our farmers in this region,” he said.

The five-hectare seed farm, secured for 25 years, will ensure continuous production of quality planting materials and serve as a training ground for farmers and researchers.

Meanwhile. MIRAIC Manager Felgene Vim Francisco-Tiongco recognized Governor Imelda “Angging” Quibranza Dimaporo’s immediate support for the project.

During the ceremony, attendees planted Tacunan coconut variety seeds, known for their high yield potential, symbolizing their commitment to the farm’s success.

The establishment of the CFIDP-CHP Seed Farm is expected to drive economic growth, create livelihood opportunities, and contribute to the long-term sustainability of the coconut industry in Lanao del Norte and beyond. (PIO Lanao del Norte/PIA-10/Lanao del Norte)
