PCG broadens communication accessibility in northeastern Luzon

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (PIA) – The Philippine Coast Guard Northeastern Luzon District (CGDNELZN) has installed its first radio repeater to further safeguard the northeastern sea coast.

Capt. Ludovico D. Librilla Jr,  district commander, said they have broadened their communication accessibility in the region to include Cagayan Coastguard station and the sub-stations in Aparri, Claveria, Santa Ana, and Camiguin areas.

With its partnership with the Department of Information and Communication, and the Coast Guard Weapons, Communications, Electronics, and Information System North Eastern Luzon Regional Center, the initiative is geared towards PCG’s commitment to advance maritime communication and security in the region.

“The said installation highlights the importance of a broader effort to improve communication infrastructure, enabling better monitoring and swift responses to maritime incidents, ultimately enhancing safety and security at sea,” the commander said.

Librilla also reported the arrival of two high-speed response boat patrol vessels for maritime incidents one of which will be stationed in Santa Ana, Cagayan, and one in Casiguran, Aurora.

Along with maritime security, Librilla said they conducted 6,478 seaborne patrols and 501 shore patrol operations within their area of responsibility.

The commander added that they collaborated with partner agencies like the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Region 2 to deploy patrol vessels on Mavulis Island in Itbayat, Batanes to deter poaching activities.

Recently, PCG also collaborated with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in the region together with another intelligence group for an operation to eradicate and destroy fully grown marijuana with an estimated cost of around P8.6 million in Tinglayan, Kalinga.

Just recently, PCG partnered with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) for joint initiatives, enhanced information sharing, and joint projects to include cross-training of personnel from both agencies on ropemanship, firefighting, and other activities.

Librilla eyes tighter maritime security in the north after establishing and inauguring another Coast Guard monitoring station in Itbayat to safeguard Philippine territories. (GVB/PIA Region 2)
