PCIC-10 streamlines claims process for farmers

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA) — The Philippine Crop Insurance (PCIC)-10 shared procedures for filing notices of loss and claims for indemnity to ensure faster processing and payment of claims, thereby minimizing the financial burden on farmers after a loss.

During the Usapang Agrikultura aired at DXIM Radyo Pilipinas Cagayan de Oro on June 20,  Aljean Exclamador, claims processor of PCIC, said there are proper measures and procedures for filing notices of loss and claims for indemnity. Farmers may file their claims in person at the PCIC office. This allows PCIC processors or personnel to assist them in completing the necessary forms, a process referred to as personal filing.

“Pwede pud sa atong mga LGUs, and barangays kay ginapasa raman na nila ang claim for indemnity sa amoang office or kung naa mi mga field personnel ilaha nang gina pick up,” said Exclamador.

(LGUs and barangays also serve as viable options for filing claims for indemnity. They can forward the claims to our office; if field personnel are available, they can pick up the claims.)

Additionally, claimants can file their claims directly through the PCIC hotline, either via text message or call, which is particularly beneficial for those residing far from the office. The message should include essential details like the claimant’s name, crop type, and the cause of damage. Others may also opt to send an email for claims for indemnity to PCIC’s regional and extension offices.

If they meet the PCIC’s requirements, claimants who have had their indemnity claims denied can request reconsideration.

“Dapat ang ilang tubag uyon didto sa among gi-deny kay usahay muingon mi nga boundaries no tally pero ang ilang i-reply nga ang signature daw nila dili mao pero kana siya deny na pud na siya sustained denial. So kung unsa ang among gi-deny sa inyo mao pud ang inyong tagaan ug rason,” said Josephine Ello, OIC claim and adjustment division head of PCIC-10.

(Their response should address the reasons for the denial of their claim, because when we say the denial was due to boundaries, no tally is given, but they reply that their signature does not match.  So, whatever the reason for the denial, the same reason should also be provided.)

Ello stated that this initiative safeguards the farmer’s livelihood by providing insurance protection against natural calamities, plant diseases, and pest infestations, thereby mitigating financial losses. (OSGJ/PIA-10)
