PCIC-10 urges farmers to secure insurance benefits for infrastructure

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA) — Promoting economic resilience and productivity, the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC)-10 encourages farmers, fisherfolk, and agribusiness owners to avail themselves of free insurance for infrastructure.

“Ang non-crop agricultural asset insurance isa kini ka type of insurance nga maga-cover or magasiguro sa atoang mga machinery, mga equipment, mga transport facilities, ug uban nga mga imprastruktura nga related sa atoang agriculture,” said Neil C. Igloria, OIC of the marketing and sales department of PCIC-10 during the Usapang Agrikultura at DXIM Radyo Pilipinas Cagayan de Oro on June 19.

(Non-crop agricultural asset insurance is a type of insurance that covers or ensures our machinery, equipment, transport facilities, and other agricultural infrastructure.)

PCIC, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture (DA), the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), and local government units (LGUs), provides the aforementioned free insurance.

According to Igloria, the insurance also covers the processing, marketing, storage, and distribution of goods and services. Additionally, it covers infrastructure damaged by natural disasters, such as typhoons, floods, and droughts.

He stressed that the insurance will cover everything, as long as it is a non-crop agricultural asset registered with the insurance program.

The insurance benefits provide a maximum of P40,000 for fisherfolk with motorized boats and P15,000 for those with non-motorized boats. The insurance coverage for both motorized and non-motorized boats does not exceed P300,000. Farmers can also receive P5,000 per hectare of land.

“Gapaningkamot gihapon mi nga makab-ot gihapon namo to or maaghat namo tong naa sa hinterlands, mga remote areas nga kinanglan gyud pud sa atoang serbisyo,” Igloria.

(We are still trying to reach or encourage those in the hinterlands and remote areas that really need our services.)

To facilitate the registration, Igloria urged the members of the sector to visit the nearest city or municipal agriculture office or their respective barangay agricultural worker. (ADJ/EZMM/PIA-10)
