PCO chief Ruiz visits information agency offices

MANILA, (PIA) — Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Secretary Jaybee “Jay” Ruiz visited the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Central and National Capital Region offices Tuesday to assess operations focused on delivering timely, relevant and accurate information to the public.

PIA Director-General Katherine Chloe de Castro, alongside key officials and staff, welcomed Ruiz during his April 8 visit to the facilities in Quezon City, where they discussed the agency’s nationwide communication services, with the PIA as the grassroots communications arm of the government.

The secretary’s visit emphasized the Marcos administration’s commitment to strengthening government communication channels amid growing concerns about misinformation and the public’s need for reliable information sources.

Ruiz toured various offices responsible for media and creative production, social media management, and regional coordination, highlighting the importance of integrated communication strategies across government platforms.

The PCO chief was also welcomed by PIA-NCR chief Emver Cortez who briefed the secretary on regional operations.

In his brief remarks, Ruiz told the staff that it is the administration’s goal to ensure that every Filipino has access to accurate and timely information about government programs and services, with the PIA among the key agencies at the forefront of this critical mission.

The visit comes as the agency implements new digital and grassroots initiatives designed to reach broader audiences across the Philippines, particularly in remote areas where traditional media access remains limited.

De Castro highlighted the agency’s efforts under her watch, including expanded regional coverage, information literacy campaigns to counter fake news, and improved response times for critical public announcements related to government services and programs.

Officials indicated that Tuesday’s consultation would inform upcoming policy directives aimed at enhancing coordination between the PCO and its attached agencies, with particular focus on streamlining information dissemination during presidential events, emergencies and other national events.
