MANILA, (PIA) — The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) took a significant step towards promoting sustainable development on Saturday, October 19, as it joined the United Nations Month celebration. The event, held at the Manila City Hall Clock Tower in cooperation with the Office of Mayor Honey Lacuna, featured the unveiling of two murals that visually represent various Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Senior Undersecretary for Digital Media Services Emerald Ridao, representing PCO Secretary Cesar Chavez, delivered a keynote address emphasizing the crucial role of the Philippines in achieving the global objectives outlined in the SDGs.
Ridao highlighted the country’s commitment to sustainable development and its efforts to address pressing challenges such as poverty, inequality, climate change, and environmental degradation.
The two murals, prominently displayed at the Manila City Hall Clock Tower, serve as powerful visual representations of the SDGs.

The first mural, entitled “Tawid Dagat,” (across the sea) depicts the interconnectedness of people and the environment, symbolizing the importance of sustainable resource management and ocean conservation.

The second mural, “Pinalikas,” (preemptive evacuation) focuses on disaster resilience and humanitarian aid, highlighting the need for preparedness and support for vulnerable communities.
The event also marked a significant milestone for the Manila Clock Tower Museum, which was officially designated as an SDGs Peace and Climate ResiliART Education Center.
This center aims to educate the public about the SDGs, promote sustainable practices, and inspire action towards a more just and equitable future.
The PCO’s participation in the UN Month celebration demonstrates its unwavering commitment to supporting the United Nations’ efforts to achieve a sustainable and equitable world for all.
By showcasing the SDGs through art and education, the PCO seeks to raise awareness, inspire action, and foster a sense of global responsibility among Filipinos.
The event also served as a platform for collaboration and partnership between government agencies, civil society organizations, and the private sector.
By working together, these stakeholders can contribute to the implementation of the SDGs and create a more sustainable and resilient future for the Philippines.
As the country continues to grapple with the challenges of development, the PCO’s efforts to promote the SDGs are more important than ever. By raising awareness, inspiring action, and fostering collaboration, the PCO can help to ensure that the Philippines plays a leading role in achieving a sustainable and equitable future for all.
