BAGUIO CITY (PIA) — The local government unit of Baguio is firm in its campaign against violence against women with disabilities.
Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO) head Samuel Aquino warned people who are taking advantage of women with disabilities will face the consequences. He said their office is ready to provide legal assistance to the victims until justice is served.
He disclosed that a woman with intellectual disability was raped recently in the city. Last year, the city recorded three deaf rape victims.
“The Office of Persons with Disability Affairs is really angry at the violence that is being committed to women with disability, [even to] women without disability,” Aquino sai
The PDAO is ready to assist the victims/survivors and is working with partners such as Saint Louis University to provide free legal representation for the victims.
The office is also ensuring that sign language interpreters are available for deaf victims of violence.
The city is also strengthening its partnerships with women with disability organizations to enhance their protection and support.
Aquino likewise emphasized the importance of community involvement and awareness in preventing violence and ensuring the safety of women with disabilities. (JDP/Ariann Mangayabas- PIA CAR-BSU Intern]
