AURORA, Zamboanga del Sur (PIA) – Reaffirming its commitment to the fight against illegal drugs, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency led the destruction of P331.2 million worth of confiscated illegal substances, marking the largest disposal operation in the region.
Held at the Libertad Power and Energy Corporation (LPEC), the destruction process utilized thermal incineration to safely dispose of 48.7 kilograms of methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) and over 1,000 pieces of expired medicines classified as dangerous drugs. PDEA-9 ensured strict compliance with environmental and safety standards, preventing any chance of these substances re-entering circulation.
PDEA-9 Regional Director Maharani R. Gadaoni-Tosoc highlighted this milestone as a testament to the agency’s relentless anti-drug efforts.
This is a testament to our unwavering commitment to eliminating illegal drugs and ensuring that these confiscated substances will never reach the streets again,”she stated.
The destruction was carried out in compliance with court orders from the Regional Trial Courts (RTC) of Pagadian City, Molave, Aurora, and Zamboanga City.

Aurora RTC Presiding Judge Analyn Ramas-Costanilla underscored the judiciary’s role in ensuring the proper disposal of confiscated drugs.
We are mandated under existing circulars and laws to destroy all drug evidence that has already been terminated and disposed of by the courts,” she said.
PDEA-9 continues to work closely with government agencies, law enforcement units, and the judiciary to intensify its anti-drug campaign. The agency assures the public of its relentless efforts to dismantle drug networks and protect communities from the dangers of illegal substances.
The large-scale destruction also served as a strong warning to drug syndicates that authorities remain vigilant and resolute in their fight against illegal drugs in the Zamboanga Peninsula. (EDT/HTB/PIA9 Zamboanga del Sur)
