KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato (PIA) – The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Region 12 confirmed that all 285 public transport workers who recently underwent surprise drug testing in the region tested negative for illegal drugs.
The drug testing was carried out at three major transport terminals in the region as part of “Oplan Harabas,” a collaborative initiative designed to ensure the safe travel of commuters.
PDEA information officer Kat Abad stated that the individuals who were tested included bus and van drivers, conductors, dispatchers, security guards, and terminal staff from Koronadal City and General Santos City.
“No individual tested positive for drug use. The result is a positive indication of the transport sector’s growing compliance and awareness,” Abad said.
She stated that the outcome demonstrates the effectiveness of government initiatives in promoting drug-free workplaces.
K9 units also performed sweeping and paneling operations during the activity.
PDEA also distributed informational materials to both employees and passengers to enhance awareness about the risks of illegal drug use.
Oplan Harabas is a nationwide initiative conducted regularly by the PDEA in collaboration with the LTO, LTFRB, DOH, PNP, and local government units.
The initiative also supports the enforcement of Republic Act 10586, known as the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013. (ORVR, PIA Region 12)
