PDLs complete skills training in Isabela

CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela (PIA) – A total of 25 Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) from the Ilagan City District Jail have completed a specialized skills training program offered by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) – Isabela.

The training, led by TESDA Isabela Training Center’s Senior Technical Education Specialist, Priscilla Diego, was designed to equip the PDLs with practical skills while in jail.

He said the initiative aims to prepare them for a smooth reintegration into society once they are released, enabling them to find stable employment and contribute positively to their communities.

“This program is a clear demonstration of TESDA’s commitment to providing marginalized sectors, including PDLs, with valuable opportunities for skills development,” said Diego.

The participants, Diego said, underwent training in Electrical Installation NCII, a technical certification offered under TESDA’s Training for Work Scholarship Program. The program, which targets marginalized communities and those in prison, reinforces TESDA’s mission of making quality skills development accessible to all sectors of society.

“Through these training initiatives, we are helping create a pathway for sustainable livelihoods and local employment,” he added.

Ilagan City District Jail’s Acting Jail Warden, Inspector Sherwin Ojadas, expressed his gratitude to TESDA for the training, highlighting its importance in providing PDLs with tangible skills for their future reintegration.

He also voiced hope for more skills development opportunities for other PDLs in the facility, emphasizing the long-term benefits of such programs.

“The skills training is not just a tool for immediate employment but a crucial step toward ensuring that our PDLs are equipped for their future endeavors. We believe this initiative is instrumental in their successful reintegration into society,” Ojadas said.

The training program aligns with TESDA’s broader goals of empowering individuals and supporting community development and is expected to create lasting positive impacts both for the PDLs involved and for the local community at large. (OTB/MGE/PIA Isabela)
